the banks of Hilo’s Waiakea Mill Pond are lined with people fishing... managed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources as a recreational fishing site.
The pond also maybe eligible for inclusion on the federal Superfund list of hazardous sites.
I guess the DLNR is too busy protecting people from the lava.
It’s too bad that if the DLNR won’t protect people from arsenic, that another group doesn’t exist, with the expressed goal of protecting Hawaiian people and their rights, such as the right to good clean food and health. A group that has brought up repeatedly the importance of monitoring potential sources of pollution on the aina, the watershed, on the earth where we walk and live.
Such a group could do so much good, if their efforts were applied where clearly needed.
