State Senator Kai Kahele, recent author of the failed TMT gut and replace bill, will announce Monday he is a candidate for Tulsi Gabbard's seat in the US House:

Hawaii state Senator Kai Kahele (D) is set to announce a bid for Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s (D-Hawaii) House seat in 2020, according to Hawaii’s Star Advertiser.

Sources told the newspaper that Kahele, who was appointed to succeed his late father in the state Senate in 2016, will announce his campaign Monday.

He has never won an election (he was appointed to his current seat in the State Senate) and he's now running for national office. Bold move.

Kai ran and won the seat on his own in the most recent election (2018)

Thanks wax, you’re right. I checked a list of positions and offices he held, but the 2018 election wasn’t listed. I probably looked at an old page. He did win in 2018 against a Libertarian candidate with over 87% of the vote.

I would guess he’ll face stiffer completion for the US House.

KAI Kahele has actually won two elections 2016 and 2018, but he needs to get a new talking mirror.


Remember Hawaii believes in Divine right incumbency, be that by Jove or Ganesha or Gozer the Gozerian for that matter.


I expect Tulsi will return to Hawaii with cold feet after visiting Iowa next winter.
