Wheelabrator Deceives Again...Pt. II
#21
Are we as tax payers willing to pay the Health Department regularly to test the emissions like in Massachusetts? Wait... I thought there wasn't going to be any harmful emissions to worry about?

The Health Department’s duties extend even further, into testing birds for West Nile virus, permitting restaurants, delivering vaccines to doctors, surveying flooded homes and businesses and checking emissions from Wheelabrator and Greater Lawrence Sanitary District.

-------
The more we speak up... the more they will listen.

Mayor Kim is on KHBC 1060am or 92.7fm Monday until 9.OOam making a last push for the Wheelabrator, and mentioned he has been talking to the individual council members about changing their vote!

Don't worry, the council won't go for it, since their pay raises they now want
112M of the money for new office digs! Those in office now won't be around when the fed makes Hilo pump and treat the water under the existing dump, and provide a liner, catchment and treat the water caught by the new one!
That's why open landfill is not recommended in a wet area! Since the council rejected the Wheelabrator proposal, I've only heard cheers about stopping it! Where are the recyclers vying for a chance at recycling the nations wettest garbage?
The pre dump seperation pad has been cancelled, I hear nothing of any suggestions or proposal where to go now! I guess having Harry to blame will keep us happy!
Next step will be x$ per load at the transfer stations! The way fuel prices are headed, don't be surprised!
I backed off opposition to the generator on the possibility of escaping fumes in the atmosphere! But now we're talking about composting etc, those few toxins are still present , and now in compost, which will eventually end up in our soil and water! Especially mercury, which is being forced into our homes as lightbulbs and now will likely end up as runoff to the ocean! Into the Pacific Tuna schools, already borderline banned for human consumption! Ah but we will all be driving bio deisel vehicles (set at same price as gas, but mandated) as most new tech gets(like geothermal wind, and solar)!
So now what massive effort are we going to see to replace a nearly complete and sanitary solution to the trash problem?

Give em Hell Harry!

gtill,

If you were listening to more than just blog deadbeats you'd be hearing a lot about what is being done by recyclers to get resources to the market. It is happening.

You heard it here last Wink

Is Maui deadbeat? I know they charge 25$ to pick up seperated rubbish at your house. That's in Wailuku and Kahului, if less than 10' from the curb and in a close neighborhood, otherwise add 10$ (week)! It still leaves you with your "stink garbage" and non recyclables!

We did a big fencing project years ago, using Maui recycled plastic fencing! They couldn't maintain the supply and dissapeared!

I also know some composting projects brought lawsuits as to health standards on Maui! What they call total trash composting is a farce, and is dangerous.

Now the likes of food scraps, paper plates cups and wooden utensils used in school cafeterias, and possibly resteraunts which would commit to feeding the pile with their utensils and scraps (meat and all). Namely crud that you know! Anything in general garbage is suspect! Mixed with greenwaste and fully composted, this would be excellent material!

But I can see Hilo pickup after a good rain! Which is the biggest problem I can see for Hilo!

That and the insane raises in fuel costs, which we know will only get worse! My biggest fear is the kind of charges they can put on the Transfer stations! Like 25-50$ per load!
But we will probably end up with 112M$ in office space so the CC can plan somthing!

Since the councils no vote, I haven't heard a word about the solution! LEt alone pumping and testing the existing landfill and lining and establishment of a pumping station forthe new one!
The sorting station has been somehow canceled, and the green waste loader is down!
