I used the search feature but couldn't find very much on this. We're in HPP and are looking for a Christian church. So far we've tried New Hope Eastside, New Hope Keaau, Hope Chapel Hilo and Sure Foundation Keaau. I was wondering if there were any that you might recommend? We're coming from Hope Chapel Kaneohe (Oahu) at which there are about 1800-2000 people a weekend so thus far it has been quite different than what we are used to. But different doesn't mean it isn't good. We've enjoyed Sure Foundation the best so far. We were at Hope Chapel since 1983 so once we settle in, we'd like to stay. Thanks for your suggestions and help!!

I recommend First United Protestant Church in Hilo. The services are wonderful and the members earnest and quite friendly, attended twice on a visit. There is a special part of the service for a children's short sermon, then the congregation sings to the children as they file off to Sunday school, quite touching. The pastor was refreshing Larry and his wife Debbie wonderful people. The music was diverse as was the choir. Above downtown Hilo just past Kaiser I believe, I don't have the address with me but I'm sure it is in the Sunday paper or the telephone directory. Good hunting!

Thanks Mella. I was beginning to think that I should take this topic down as there were a lot of views but no responses. I figured people either don't go to a Christian church, or don't want me there. [

Dean - My wife, Carol, and I are active in Puna Baptist. (I wish the Hilo dive club would have some outing at times other than Sunday mornings - we are both active divers) The church is located in Pahoa at the corner where you turn to go to the County dump. It has ministries for all ages; runs after school kid's programs, a food ministry, and is always needing more willing helpers.
If you are musical, I am trying to put together a men's singing group.
Try us some Sunday you may be challenged by our pastor's sermons and our warm fellowship.
God Bless, Jim

I didn't reply 'cause we go into Hilo... Holy Apostles Episcopal... 3 sevices, 7:30 - no choir; 9 contemporary & short; 10:00 full service
this is a liturgical church that welcomes all to the table...
We have friends who go to, and enjoy: Puna Congregational in Keaau; MCC Open Arms in Ainaloa; Christ Lutheran, Hilo; New Hope, Keaau; Hilo United Methodist, Hilo; Sure Foundation, Keaau; Haili Christian (oldest on island), Hilo; UCC, Hilo; Kinoole Baptist, Hilo; St Josephs, Hilo; LDS, Keaau.... and others
Peanut Butter Ministries is an ecumenical outreach housed at Hilo Methodist, with many churches contributing...
There is also an active ecumenical Cursillo movement on island... all are invited...

Thank you Carey and Jim for your responses.
Jim- I sing on a limited basis-mostly a musician, playing trumpet (thus my screen name), keyboards and guitar. Kind of prefer to be in the background.
Thanks again and God Bless!
