Dental Hygenists in Hilo
#1
My dentist can't seem to keep hygenists on staff.  In the almost 20 years I've been going there, I can recall only once when I got the same one twice in a row.  When they leave, it throws the schedule off, and sometimes it's a month or more before they can get me back in.  It doesn't help that they are often part timers.  My dentist is OK, but I would switch if there are others who can keep to a schedule.

Is this common with other Hilo dentists?  I know there are shortages of health professionals, but this guy can't seem to keep one once he hires them.

I have been very happy with Mauna Family Dental. When I was there in January for a cleaning I seem to recall that they were accepting new patients.

Here's a link to their website:

Wow...Sounds like my dentist. I was informed last year that my upcoming cleanings were cancelled until such time as they get a new oral hygienist. But if I have other problems with teeth to make an appointment. Its been a year and still haven't got a call from them about a new hygienist. Guess they are doing without. My dentist has been Dr. Charles Sugiyama .

Dr. Kobayashi does his own cleanings. I went to him for years but he doesn’t take my insurance anymore. Not sure if he’s taking new patients.

Dr. Chock is my new dentist. He also did his own cleanings, but now has a new hygienist so no track record. I believe he is taking new patients.

Both are in Hilo.

Thanks to all for the info and suggestions. Two of the folks from church I help with their taxes recommend Dr. Richard Nii. Anyone have experience with him?

I'm British. What's a dental hygienist?
