Ohia posts
#11
some guys have been boring the post interior, and cement filing them, also boring holes to accept a 4x4, unfortunately these individuals are not in the advertismen realm. There is a lot of super local grown milling going on, but the artists are somewhat countercultural, they shy from exposure, many have been burned, and don't trust!

Filling the center of the post with cement, unless there is some sort of moisture barrier between the cement and the wood might cause rot, but perhaps they use a specific sort of cement or something.

Ohia is pretty brittle and doesn't work well for ax handles. Makes a really pretty ax handle but it doesn't last long.

Ahmadia across the street from leilani sub is doing that - he has a coring machine and then the builders are adding the galv steel pole filled with concrete.

Hotcatz, in your opinion, would that protect the ohia from rot? it seems like a good option.
