We are on a catchment system. Problem is excess vibration noise whenever the water runs. It is not at the pump (which is 50' away from the house), it is at the house. We were able to stop the vibration temporarily by draining the pipes in the house, but that doesn't seem to work any more. Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help because Hubby is ......very annoyed.....by it.

Might be loose pipes. Water is heavy and may make the pipes move when full of water. Are you on post and pier? If so, just go under and strap your water pipes to joists. Just use regular pipe straping and some tacks or screws. Maybe that simple.

I was thinking straping would be good also. The part about less noise after draining got me. I don't know why that would help. Are you sure you got all of the air out. After draining and turning the pump back on did you crack every valve and let them run until you got all of the air out?

That is my guess also Oink. The only time we had this problem in our 40 plus years, was when the water company turned off the water for a day. There was air trapped in the pipes causing the jack hammer effect. Bleeding the system and them running all faucets at a very low level to push all the air out.

The pipes need "hammer" tubes. Where the faucet is to come out of the wall instead of an elbow, it needs a T goes to a 8-10" pipe with a cap on it that will absorb the air. It works like a shock absorber.

Doing what Mella said has helped. Hubby wonders if adding a check valve at the house would help to prevent back leaking of the water (he already has one of those.....before buying the hammer....)
Thanks for all the suggestions.
