Local Telephone Service / Leilani Estates
#1
I just called Hawaiian Tel Com to set up land line service for our rental in Leilani Estates... they tell me it will be up to one MONTH before they can set up our line. Since my home business is totally reliant upon my phone (cell or land line), this puts my business in jeopardy for a few weeks. Cingular and Verizon don't guarantee coverage in Leilani...
I called Time Warner to inquire about receiving digital phone service and they don't offer it in Leilani either.
Help!! Any suggestions?

I live on Nohea street and my Verizon cell phone has ZERO reception. No I can't hear you now. I can't hear you at all!! Hello, Hello, Helloooooooooo - Nada.

Hawaiian Tel is going through transition just having bought out Verizon for local phone service. They are pretty stretched at the moment.

I think Nextel has cell coverage here but confirm that.

We have cingular and it seems to work in Leilani everywhere except right as you get to the Hwy at the top for about 500 ft. Then starts working again 200-300 ft on the Hwy going to Pahoa. Also a deadspot on the Kapoho-Pahoa Rd right as you pass Nanwale going down hill.

Hawaii TelCom's customer service functions have crashed and burned. We have been waiting for over a month to get DSL in HPP, and when we called the other day to ask why it was taking so long, they cancelled our pending order and started the whole process all over again. Oddly, they are still advertising a service they are apparently unable to deliver. One woman I spoke to wasn't even sure what company she was working for!!!

Aloha,
Jerry

I hooked up with Pacific lightNet www.plni.net (VoIP) 808 Netphone
$24 a month unlimited LD.
Customer service is great.
It works just great no dropped calls clear voice ect.
The only problem is that if your power goes so does your phone.
Also no 911 on the BI. So we wrote the Pahoa and Hilo police numbers
right on the phones.
This is one of the only VoIP companies that have the 808 area code.
The router comes in about 2 days and you connect it to your computer.
This service is great.

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it cost when it’s free...now here come the taxes.....

Oceanic Time Warner's VoIP service also has the 808 area code number for 39.95 a month.

Your the first person that I've read that has had a positive experience with 808Netphone.
I've read a lot of horror stories.

Does anybody know the skinny on getting new service in Eden Roc? The electrician says ask the phone company and the phone company (as of yesterday) says ask the electrician. The lady at HELCO wasn't "sure". Meanwhile, I'm in the twilight zone living what feels like an episode of, well, the afore mentioned. N E way, who does what and is my 21' galvanized pole which is cemented into the lava rock sufficient for supporting both phone and power since the power will be a good 12' from the ground? Assuming I should have electricity sometime by the end of July at the latest, when should I contact the phone company for service? Yep, probably dumb questions and certainly not pertaining to Leilani Estates but I'm sure other inquiring minds (i.e. Mella, Tony, et al) would like to know. I'm afraid to even touch the cable/Direct tv questions...Wink pj

Aaron,
I havn't had any problems with service or clear voices with them. Second, TW has no phone services in my area.
Third, it's $15 a month cheaper any way.
Maybe they have improved on their equipment?
