Do any of you know where a person visiting for a week or two might be able to take a hula lesson? Who one should contact? A traveling friend needs to know!

Aloha Mella,
Depending on when you're friend's going to be on Puna side, she/he might find one at Volcano Art Center. I'm going to be looking when I get there for a hula halau, but I found this class at Volcano Art Center, although it's longer than a week or two. Still they may have some info/leads:

Hi Mella,
One more idea - if it's just one class, sometimes the resorts have.

Hey Thanks Cindy I'll keep that in mind the next venture over. I think the west side hotels do this I'm not sure the east side do but the Volcano Art Center is awesome! Aloha Mella

My wife is also looking for a hula instructor. I found several in the yellow pages on Hilo side. We haven't called anyone yet sonce some local friends have offered to introduce us to a relative who runs a hula studio in Hilo. The instructor's name is Eva Lani. Haven't met Eva yet, but after we do I'll follow up here with more info.
Aloha

Mella, I found 2 community senior hula instructions. HPP community Center is one, 9:30 am at the activity center. Check out <http://www.hawaiianparadisepark.org/Seniors/hula.html>
Hawaii County Parks & Rec at Pahoa neighborhood center is the other, Friday 1-3pm <http://www.hawaii-county.com/parks/pdf/Puna%20Pahoa%20Community%20Center.pdf>
I think htat there are more lessons at the Parks & Rec & at the University & the Cultural Center throughout the year. I do know that some of the timeshares also offer them.
(the lessons are for the putty tats, so they look more Hawaiian, right???)(Oh, I do think that ours is more than a little part Bengal, only her paw tips are white, and she is Hawaiian stray.. but many of the traits you mentioned are hers - water, toilet watching, coming when called, no idea she is smaller than the neighborhood border collie, & very territorial, guarding the house & fenceline - and she looks like the stripedy Bengal - not the spotted version)
Aloha, Carey
