News Flashes, from Hurricanes to Fires & all else
#1
Like this Andrew? When ever something comes up we can do a search for News Flashes and post any pertinent new articles! Good idea.

Hi Mella1

Yes like this but also I was thinking more than disasters and threats, any pertinant news story. For example Kapohocat posted a story a few days back Re: "Unpermitted Home Amnesty". This is a very important bit of news to me and I would not have seen it except here on Punaweb.

What you have here is a start. If it develops and Rob sees any value in the idea maybe later it can expand into it's own forum topic.

Hi all, I am thinking about this. There is so much potential for crossover bewteen forums that the more forums we have the more confusing it can become.

For example: A posting is made about Hurricane/Tropical Depression Daniel and then runs on into discussion of rainfall at a certain intersection six years ago. That is all well and good but it then becomes a simply a lively topic.
Is it news?

I think that it is not practical to look for Punaweb to become a dependable news source beyond what it does when people post links to articles of interest.

If you first hear about an approaching hurricane here it is merely by accident. That news is already in the newspaper, TV, radio and weather channels. Punaweb would then best be a place to discuss: Geez! A Hurricane! What do I do, where do I hide?

Assume the best and ask questions.

I know this sounds pretty lame but I don't have TV or radio. Maybe others don't as well.

Also the folks here on Punaweb constitute many pairs of eyes and all share a common interest - i.e. Puna. Someone here very well may see something that is important to all and that others might otherwise miss.

Getting rain this AM - Guy Hagi says "flash flood watch till 6 PM" - the water vapor loop from NOAA showed a big fat rain cloud just about to touch Kapoho! Should blow in and out quickly... Might have little bit of thunder!

Hi Carrie,

There is a weather station in Hawaiian Shores, just down from your new home that reports live conditions.

Works pretty well, and has lots of history.
