I have been off island for a couple of months and was wondering if anyone has heard about any projects getting government stimulus money?
I am in a small county in Ohio and every week the newspaper(it is a weekly)has an article about some local road project that has been funded by stimulus money.
Driving down the roads you pass large signs put up by Uncle Sam that tell of upcoming repaving or rebuilding. The road from my summer home to town has been repaved and is wonderful !!
Are our officials spending too much time infighting and letting a golden opportunity pass ??

How pathetic that the greatest world power, its leader, the bastion of the free market and staunch defender of the capitalist movement, needs something called "stimulous money", and lots of it.

The Free Market collapsed. Without stimulus, there would have been a great depression (greater than what we have experienced).

Two trillion plus to business - Now we have to wrangle money for Hawaii's children who need literacy and healthcare support, its all about priorities - and hype
pretty heartless example of failed unbridled capitalism if you ask me

Hawaii ranks in the bottom 10% in spending stimulus dollars. I belive Hawaii now ranks dead last in using their portion of the dedicated education dollars. If the federal government made money available to Hawaii for education, but Hawaii has not accepted or spent it, is that the fault of the program? Can't blame the failure to education and health because businesses took their share and spent it while local governement is sitting around debating if Monday or Thursady is the better day to send out lay-off notices.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald posted a letter to the editor today. It's entitled "Wishful thinking":
"If one could:
Feed the hungry.
House the homeless.
Heal the sick.
Rehabilitate addicts.
Just wishful thinking, but if those four scourges could be eliminated, or alleviated, wouldn't it be a wonderful world to live in for all of us?"
This letter, as well as the thread before us, directly relates to an issue that I have been ranting about for the past 40 years: Global greed and corruption in government, business, and industry, combined with a Neanderthal urge to dominate and control, are the great scourges which cause all others. They are the leading contributors in making the world a sadder place to live, and are responsible for everything on earth that is socially rotten.

I know that the road repair in Umauma around MM 17 was funded by stimulus money. The plans to repair this road were complete and ready for some time but the money to do it was not there. Makes you wonder how long the state would have waited to fix it if it not for the stimulus money.
