We're in the market for a new mattress/box spring, and I really wanted a Sealy Posturepedic. Turns out they're only sold on the island at Costco in Kona. What mattress have YOU bought locally and been happy with? Anyone buy one online and had it shipped? How'd that go?

Mattresses are a super personal purchase, what works for me could give you a terrible back ache.
That said, we were really happy with both the mattress and service we got from the America's mattress, just up the highway from Ken's. It was made in Honolulu which was a plus for us, also we ended up busting a wheel and they gave us a new one without a quibble.
Go in and try out all the mattresses in town, then check the reviews from Consumer reports because all mattresses are not created equal. Store brands are usually made by the same factories that crank out the name brand mattresses, they just have different coverings and labels. Finally, a real latex mattress does not harbor dust mites, and will outlast a regular mattress by decades, so if you have allergies you might want a latex mattress.

I have to agree with Carol...we also got our mattress at America's Mattress there on the highway. They had several price ranges and were very friendly. We are very happy with our choice, too.

I can't remember if I bought my current bed at American Mattress or at Furnitureland, have been in both, liked both. I bought bedframes at Furnitureland. Which is another place to check out, on Kinoole. One side is furniture and the other is beds.

We just inherited Mom's 2 yr old sleep number bed as it was now too big for just her she said. SB loves it, I dont (no matter what #).
They are expensive for what they are, IMHO.

We ended up getting a Sealy Posturepedic from sears. So much for the Sealy site that said they were only sold at Costco. My husband and I both loved posturepedics we slept on in hotels and at vacation rentals so we knew that's what we wanted. It'll take 2 weeks to get here from Oahu. Supposedly. I hope it really doesn't take longer as my sister in Va. had a terrible delivery (3 months on a refrigerator that was supposed to take a week!)
I wanted posturepedic over Simmons' BeautyRest (SlumberWorld/Furnitureland and Yamada). Sorry, not a tempurpedic fan bc I feel like I'm sinking into it (even the firm) and I like a very firm mattress. I know a lot of people love them, but everybody's mattress tastes are so far apart in mattresses. A friend loves super soft mattresses and they don't agree with me or my back so we're all different. Another friend got a sleep # bed and it had mold in it. Never did get over to America's Mattress but it's good to know they're nice in there. Mahalo everyone!

The best money I ever spent was on a sleep by number bed. It is the last bed you will ever need to buy and you can make it as soft or as firm as you want.
