I was reading about the 'Big Island Media Shakeup' on the Hawaii Reporter website and was shocked to see what Kona readers think of east Hawaii.
... the South Kona-based Journal is believed to be considering adopting a weekly format and opening an office in (gasp) Hilo, considered by some of its Kona readers to be a “bastion of low-IQ people”.

What's up with that!

Hawaii Reporter website is the same folks of the Hawaii Free Press. Isn't that sorta like quoting the National Enquirer?

Just remember, as long as you hear and read things like that Puna will be safe from going through the drastic change that Kona went through during the past 7-8 years.

I have a Hawaii news catagory on my Google news home page and only followed a link. I have never read the Hawaii Reporter before and obviously never will again. I thought that was pretty outrageous to make a statement like that about your neighbors. Merry Christmas.

Back in the old days before Puna became so "trendy" John Rabi & I used to have a running joke on a different forum about installing a gate in Puna. Everyone on that site bashed the heck out of the East side. At first it really bugged me but then I realized how lucky I was that I wouldn't have to like around folks that were shallow minded enough to discount the East side over rain & a few other minor issues.

It's good to read another viewpoint sometimes. I think the article stated what others thought of the non-Kona side (which is very likely the perception that is on the Kona side), not what the writer thought.

We hit Kona last week for our twice yearly Costco and Lowes run. I was once again struck by the traffic and vog.
We had lunch at the Marina and stopped into the office to check on a sailboat slip The waiting list has gone to ten years, up from two just a few years ago. I was told the mooring buoys were coming out of the bay up North to make room for the Super Ferry and more commercial activity. When I asked about ANY space available for a boat, he replied "Reeds Bay in Hilo". I laugh about how insulted some of the nose-in-the-air bunch from that side must be to hear such things. And talk about poor planning!
