K-Mart coming to Keeau?
#1
I was in KTA the other day and I asked if they still had plans to open a KTA in Keeau, and the answer came back no! I was told that plans now call for a K-Mart, the kind with a full grocery store inside it . KTA employee told me KTA would make way more money renting the land/space to K-Mart instead of one of their own stores. Anyone else hear of these plans?

Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.

K-Mart hasn't opened a new store nationwide for atleast 8 years. Actually now they are in downsizing mode. Especially after the merger
with Sears.

Kmart was looking at building a store in East Hawaii about 10 years ago.
But they got beat out by Wal-Mart during the DHHL bidding process. Which
resulted in Wal-Mart building their store across from Prince Kuhio.

I would be surprised if KTA backed out the Gateway Center project. Especially since one of the principals in the project, Duane Kurisu
has connections to the KTA supermarket chain.

Big boxes have big wallets. KTA might make out better, certainly a lot less pain for management!
