there are herbs that sooth throat and benefit lungs and sinus, but breathing S02 is bad, best is not to breathe it.

Limit exertion, spend more time inside, get in A/C if you can or other filtered air. Basic but there are no miracle methods that I know of.

Ya, been killing me lately too. Chem Defense sub lingual pills from the health food store helps. I've been known to wear an N95 mask or wet cloth over my mouth & nose. If I ever leave this island, it will be because of the vog. The SO2 is bad enough, but the particulate matter gets in your lungs & never comes out. Winter is the worst due to the storms cutting off the trades. If we have a strong southerly wind, I spend a day or two down in Kau where it's clear. I have a bunch of links for monitoring sites if anyone wants them.

Lots of water helps me. Drink a lot of it, more than you usually would.
For the eyes, I use Alaway, an eye drop antihistamine (Longs & KTA have it).
That and limiting my time outdoors when the air is brown.

I have a friend who swears by the nasal flush things that you can get at Longs. Something about keeping the sinuses cleaned out.

Good luck.

Recent PBS Insights on Hawaii program about vog.

Good explanations of what it is, how it affects plants and animals, and surprisingly, that vog isn't as bad for humans as smog is (chemical makeup)

(for those on dialup, it's an hour long video)

Of course it is dangerous when you live that close!
If you watch the video, you will learn what they mean by it isn't as dangerous - they discuss Kona and Honolulu's issues, specifically.

The vog doesnt seem to be as bad down here today. Checked out the vog map provided by a punawebber (Thank you!!) and it seems to be moving off the east tip.
