Went to a talk with a biologist working with HVO tonight, and Halema'uma'u has had some interesting new VISIBLE lava!
the overlook webcam link:

ETA:The link above is a black/white (I was at a talk where they explained why... but that was over a week ago...)

This is a link to the real color of the lava in Halema'uma'u that I saw last night (1/20/11):

ETAII: Trib today had an article on a new (or at least not known by the landowner, it seems) tube that opened up in HPP this week. It seems to have steam & sulfer....

Are you talking about Daisy's fall? The FD had a correction that she fell in a cesspool, through the cap. But that didnt seem right to me as they said it was 3-4 ft wide (the hole). If a cesspool cap had broken, there 1) would been concrete rubble, and of course 2) it would have been [xx(]Poopy[xx(] as it is an active CP, and 3) the hole would be a lot wider.

I looked all the way through the paper and can't find the article. What page is it on? Where in HPP is this new tube?
Thanks

It isn't a "new" tube. She simply fell through fragile ground into an old lava tube. The tubes are everywhere on the island.

Yes! I laughed at the "new" part - unless the writer meant "previously unknown", but not new.

Most of the HTH is always two steps behind and half a bubble off as a valuable news outlet. IMHO. [|)] It happened on Jan 12, and was reported on Jan 21.

Disclaimer: I truly do not know anything about Colin Stewart's abilities specifically though (the writer) to make a valid assessment (before anyone's knickers get twisted if he is their best friend).

I just read the original HTH report.. Any idea what a 'chicken trainer' is? Apparently the property owner is a chicken trainer!
