Diet Soda.
#71
Who cares one way or the other... My only 2 cents to add to this lovely topic is that diet soda tastes like the used water at an automatic car wash. Who wants to drink such a nasty tastin' elixar!? Not me! Jonesin' for a soda a couple weeks ago while at my parent's house, I errantly opened a can of Coke Zero, EWWWW! Couldn't even finish drinking it! [xx(]

Last night I poured a nice cup of cola made with Williams Sonoma's soda syrup and our penguin. Best tastin soda I've had all my life! Really satisfies and doesn't leave me cravin' for more... It's a real "once in a while" kind of treat! [Big Grin]

Punafish,

Looking forward to it. Mahalo and Kampai! For a big place, Puna is a pretty small place. We'll try and make it to next Punaweb Party. See ya, amigo/amiga.

fishchamp,

Holy Moley, that Sonoma soda sounds ono! Nothing beats a big thirst like a cold penguin.**S**

Captiain Beefheart was a great champion of the penquin, btw. He spoke eloquently and with great moral conviction about them on a tv appearance.

Maybe that's what Puna needs...more penquins.

That article debunking wikipedia is 5 years old. Granted, the same basic principle of wikipedia hasn't changed as far as removing false data, but they have been far more rigorous in recent years about making sure the info there is sourced appropriately.

As far as aspartane goes, i dont know every study conducted on it, but IIRC (and this going from memory so if im not 100% accurate forgive me) the one that concluded it caused cancer was done on rats. And they IVed close to the rats body weight of asppartane in a short period of time before the rats developed tumors. Smaller doses didnt have the same results. Anyone iv'ing lbs of aspartame at one time?

Now, will i drink diet drinks? No, because i noticed i had a huge appetitie when i consumed 2-3 cans of diet soda a day. I switched to water and unsweeted iced tea and my appetite dropped to more reasonable ammounts.

I would add to this that a product such as aspartane, or most any consumable, will always have a small percentage of the population that has some adverse affects. Peanuts and milk for example are fine for most people... not everyone. Essential oils make me leave a room, gag or kick a hitch hiker out of the car.

Can anyone on here seriously link a death to drinking too much diet soda other than maybe drinking gallons and gallons and drowning in it? More likely those people already have health issues such as being overweight leads to all sorts of health problems and death. Do the logical health things like get some excercise, don't smoke, limit your alchohol intake, limit saturaed fats and lots of sugar and white flour, use your seat belt, and don't worry yourself to death about every little thang.

Wikipedia and Snopes (2 people) are based on personal OPINIONS. Much better to do your own research and come up with our own OPINIONS, no?

Snopes and Wikipedia are based on facts, not opinions. Another person who doesn't know how Wikipedia works.

Youtube videos and websites with funky names, now that's single-person opinions, untouched by truth and knowledge.

And still nobody can come up with a single reliable source for these alleged problems. I wonder why...

You get your information from anxietypanic.com? It explains a lot!

Well at the time it came up I thought "diet soda" was innocent enough but it appears to be a source of varied debate, while perhaps interesting, is not Puna or Hawaii related enough to continue.

I will take Bob Orts advice and bring this topic to a conclusion. It will remain in archive for what value it may contain.
