looks like we are hitting the demographics numbers as more chains seek out our consumers

Just my experience, but I found their prices in Kailua to be quite high. While they have a very wide range of stuff, their in depth inventory in individual catagories is pretty limited. I'd much rather go to smaller specialty shops.

YES!!!!!
Go to locally owned and operated "mom & pop" type stores. Just because they build em' we don't have to go!

The sad part of that article was "Woolworths" and vacant for over a decade. I used to love the 5 and Dimes. Wow, did that ever bring back visions of the candy counter and all those cheap things I bought for Mom on special days (circle pins and bath powder). Jeez, I feel older than real dirt.
Peace and long life

Went to the one in kona , the prices are way high and not much the people on this side would want. The surplus place in Hilo has better outdoor gear

I've adopted the dollar stores as my "current" Woolworth's. Love the hunt for a bargain. They aren't exactly the same, but as close as we'll get in this global economy.

The only thing Sports Authority is good for is athletic shoes - lots of selection and when you happen upon a good sale, even better. Teva, Merrill, Candies, etc. are hard to find here so this is welcome to me, just for the shoes. Everything else -- and even the shoes when they're not on sale - is pretty expensive.
And sandals- forgot to say that. My favorite Merrill slip-on sandals were from sports authority. (added)
