Tax sale Dec. 14

I heard that Japanese nationals often times are not charged property tax because they have no way to serve them notice of the tax in Japan and they don't have a way to serve them notice of a Tax sale either, so it just goes on and on.

Interesting distribution - fully 1/3 of them are in Ocean View alone (with a few more in the adjoining subdivisions), and about 1/3 of the remainder are in Nanawale Estates. The rest are scattered around, but still concentrated in a few places. None from HPP or the other subdivisions of Keaau ahupuaa, for example (i.e. Hawaiian Acres, Fern Forest). They must cycle through and clear out areas one at a time.

Rene - it didn't look like there were any Japanese on there (not even any Hawaiian Japanese names). There are several development companies that probably gave up hope of doing anything with the land or simply went out of business without disposing of it, and some trusts that probably represent people who died without their land being properly inherited. After a year I'm still getting registered letters at my PO box for the previous boxholder who apparently walked away from their mortgage, so there are probably also people who did a similar thing with property taxes as well.
