I recently purchased this amazing and beautiful book, "The World of Bananas in Hawaii: Then and Now." I'm learning so much about Hawaiian banana varieties, growing bananas, etc. It's not cheap, but for what a comprehensive book it is with so many photos, it's worth it.

I saw this book today at the Ulu Festival. It is gorgeous and geeky at the same time! Very interesting discussion of the history of Hawaiian banana varieties. They definitely did their homework. Bananas and pineapples love it at my place. Want more! Thanks, Rob.

Yes, I do! But maybe I should dig a hole first! I still haven't quite figured out how to get things in the ground here! Come down and help me (bring cheesecake!).
You would think that the new book printed by UH-press would be available in the UH library system, but it is not. I guess it takes time for libraries whether its the college system or state system to make requisitions and purchases. I am very interested in looking at this book but I can wait.

Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers donated The World of Bananas in Hawai‘i Then and Now to the Kealakekua Branch in Kona and the downtown Hilo Branch. HTFG is also donating Specialty Crops for Pacific Islands written by Craig Elevitch to the Kealakekua and Hilo libraries.
