Talks of lava Ferris wheel off the highway
#21
What does that mean RandomQ? SBH+++? You like SBH ideas?

I think it would be more than 25$ per ride, maybe we will find out soon. We definitely need tourists coming back to our island so if the wheel can bring them back then let's do it.

Would there be a paved parking lot and covered waiting area? It would be keeping with the "Puna theme" if it were a gravel lot that gets really muddy and dirty when it rains. (Blessing the tourist shoes with Puna mud and grime)

SBH, yes, yes, yes!

It would be really cool if they kept the wheel itself dark with minimal light to add to the experience.

The Ferris Wheel is an instant lava viewing platform that creates a view six stories above elevation and will be on island and possibly available until next spring beginning on September 10th.

The ability to place it in the middle of Pahoa town will do the most good for the local economy and is a safer location which doesn’t impose on Leilani Estates residents.

This crazy idea is starting to get legs. Would you actually see the lava from that height? Anyone have a drone?

Yes that’s the big question. What is visible from 65’ above Pahoa? I’m assuming you could at least see the fissure 8 fountain which is sometimes visible from the Sacred Heart parking lot.

Doubtful you could see the lava river, but you never know. A drone would be the best way to find out. Maybe check from the slightly higher Pahoa Park too.

I didn't know you could see the fountain from Sacred Heart, I'll have to go have a look!

Somewhat off topic; Do carnival rides come to Hawaii? Just curious, I've never seen them here.

Kona, apparently. As per SBH's link above.

Thanks Paul, not sure how I missed that. I wonder how long it takes to tear down a Ferris Wheel, in the case that it needed to be dismantlled fairly quick.

PaulW "I didn't know you could see the fountain from Sacred Heart, I'll have to go have a look!"

We were at Sacred Heart a few days ago and couldn't see the fountain, however we did see a Mordor like glow. There was a near full moon that made it quite a site. My camera had trouble focusing, this is the best one I got:
