Kalapana Village Cafe Burglary
#1
Apparently they were hit last night. Someone broke in and stole the safe. Someone has to know something. If you do, please call the police. A lot of employees and the owners are gonna be affected by this theft. Sad to see Big Island sink to these type of lows...[xx(]

That's sad!
But could you please change the title to Burglary? Robbery is scary stuff. Robbery is when someone gets held up by the perp and threatened with force if they don't comply. When I see robbery I find it shocking because it's so much heavier than burglary. Please let's call things by their right names.

I'm with Kathy. Change the title, please. Robbery is taking something from a person by force of fear. Classically, burglary is the unlawful entry into a building with intent to commit a felony therein (usually theft, but it could be wiretapping of phones). Your laws may vary.

The reason this is important is that Puna and Hawaii have NOT seen many robberies, as of yet. Not to minimize burglaries, but robberies are very dangerous. The burglary of an occupied dwelling is also very dangerous and is punished more severely.

Kathy and I have the same pet peeve on this.

Very sad about the Kalapana Village Cafe. Although I don't hear too much about, it is a wonderful place in a unique area of the island, and the new owners had taken the place up a notch.

It would take quite an operation to remove a safe. Does anyone know how big it was, if it was secured?

Per the police, 6 houses got hit in Hawaiian Shores and Beaches Saturday evening. It wasn't just burglary, it was mindless destruction of property. Burglary is bad enough, but at least I understand the motive. Destroying peoples homes is both angering and disturbing. It's time to intensify and re-energize our neighborhood watch. I feel so bad for the folks who got hit.

Word gets around eventually on the stuff that happens. Did any of you hear about the lady in HPP that had her house broken into a few weeks ago? Then they came back to break in again while she was home, her husband had just left and the assumption is they were watching and figured everyone was gone again. She heard a noise and saw them breaking in through a window or it might have been her door. She managed to get to her gun as they were coming through and chased them off.

It is getting very bad.

It is the wild west... uh south east! Very sad for everyone involved. Knowing what is going on is important though, probably the only way to prevent more of it.
