Who thinks a casino and hotel at the end of hawaiian beaches would be a good spot? do you think it would help the economy or hurt with higher crime?

State and county employees are already known for rampant corruption and general ineptness. Adding a casino would bring this to a new level.

Every time a state allows casinos in a new place all the alarmists scream zomgz it'll be the end of society as we know it!!!!1. And then you know what happens when they open up? Absolutely nothing. Except more jobs and state revenue.

People were damn near up in arms about the casinos in detroit opening up. It was silly. Of course it was just the cause of the day, and now that they're open no one cares anymore and there was little to no negative impact, and the positives far outweigh any even if there was.

I'm convinced that some key politicians are on the take from some las vegas gaming company and/or travel brokerage type thing or maybe even the airlines themselves. Those are the places that would be hurt by a casino going up here.

As far as hawaiian beaches being a prime location? Thats a fairly densely populated subdivision that doesn't have the roadways for large amounts of traffic. And the way people here seem to love to gamble, you know it would be packed. So no, thats a horrible idea.

Perhaps some gamblers might want to suggest the odds of any investor laying down tens of millions to build a casino anywhere in Puna much less at the bottom of Hawaiian Beaches subdivision.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I'm pretty sure you could put a casino anywhere on this island and it would make money. People here just love to gamble. I don't understand whats so great about it either.

Something just feels right about introducing a voluntary Stupidity Tax (ie legalized gambling) to help improve education (ie Furlough Fridays).

This is only based on my memory of the meeting a few years back, on the study that Shipman LTD did for just a resort on their Kaloli Pt property, & researching the Onemea Resort EIS:

I am pretty sure that there is much infrastructure upgrades that would be needed to get any resort there, and MANY MANY public meetings & surveys & studies & years & years & lots of money....

and I really think the end result would be the same as Onemea (and they had some very connected investors) ... years of planning, lots of money, lots of studies & no resort...
