WRONG - Tex's - Pahala - Sorry!
#1
Whenever we cruise to the "West Side" via Honokaa , we look forward to " stretching our legs"; a "potty break" and a warm malasada at Tex's.
No more!!!
They are auctioning "everything" July 17th!

It will not be the same; stretching in an empty parking lot, using the "bushes" and munching a cold "granola bar"!

Please say this isn't true. Although I never really liked the food that much, it's become a tradition to stop there on the way over to Kona. Been doing it for nearly 15 years now.

Tex's in Pahala hasn't been Tex's in a long time. (3 years or better) It is a "no name" place and the food made me sick the last time I stopped in. It's the only time in many many years that I got sick eating bad food.

Royall, the Pahala Town Cafe was leasing... I think (Note - do not KNOW) Tex still owned & is now auctioning the restaurant equipment....

I have a friend who lives in Pahala, she said Tex closed it down 3-4 years ago. There have been several operators since then, none of them made it. The latest one didn't even make malasadas except on Fridays and Saturdays. It's off the beaten track and there wasn't enough business from to locals to survive there.

The Tex Drive Inn in Honoka'a is still there and is going to remain. Ada sold it about a year ago so it is under new ownership but not much has changed. Ada wasn't the first owner, she bought it decades ago from the fellow who started it. At least I think the owner before Ada was the one who started it, he may have bought it himself, but I wasn't paying attention at the time. When Ada got it, they put in the tile floor and fixed up the eating area and the menu had a few new upscale items added to it. Those were the sandwich wraps and better salads. So far the newest owners haven't made all that many changes at all. I think pizza is on the menu now - or at least it was for awhile. But, Tex's Drive Inn in Honokaa is alive and well and you can still get your malasada fix on the way to Kona! The garden out back is still there, too.
