You don't mean Kulani Rd on Volcano Highway, do you? If so, why is that good?

That is the one. There is so much traffic there it is very dangerous. It is the only entrance into Fern Acres and the main access to upper Hawaiian Acres. Many bad accidents there.

Yep, I almost get rear-ended there every single day! I'm driving towards Volcano, the guy in front of me has his turn signal on to turn left, I slow and sometimes stop. The guy behind me goes AROUND me, on the right, entering the shoulder. Meanwhile, the guy on North Kulani doesn't see the guy driving on the shoulder because the guy in front of me waves him to go ahead and go and enter the highway.........what a mess.
The most recent accident involved a family whose car rolled over on it's side.

that's all we need is another stop light on the highway, where will it end? when it's like downtown. then everyone will be happy. wonder why they move to upper puna if all they want is to be like town?
Loffelkopffl,
I agree with your sentiments but reality is this one is really needed in this spot. More people more problems.

Perhaps the state should consider a 2 lane solution from Kea'au to Volcano, much in the way that 130 will eventually be 2 lanes. There are approved subdivisions lying dormant along the corridor. This will be a repeat of Highway 130. Stoplights are short-term solutions to the overall Puna build out.
