Thanks so much. I've checked Craigslist and have asked around. Right now, he is our new friend. Got him a lovely cage and many toys to play with. He's a sweetie.

I am going to edit to add that upon looking for a cage, we found some that were outrageous expensive! Stacey's only had small ones and the medium ones were over $30. Pahoa Feed had some good sized ones but they were about $50. Too rich for my blood. So a local friend told me of a gentleman that sells birds in Hilo. He also has fishes and supplies. He is up Komohana way - near Ainaola. We got a lovely, large cage for $29. Can't beat that! He lives on Uilani just off Komohana...in case anyone is interested.

Good deal on a big cage! Be careful not to buy used cages which are sometimes bitten and rusty. Rust is very bad for a bird. (as are house keys which a lot of people give to their birds and are high in zinc) - I've always had birds (finches, budgies, cockatiels and umbrella cockatoo) until our move here. Also, I'm a big believer in not feeding them seed, which is like feeding your kid potato chips all day. Pellet diet (harrison's, etc.) is much better w/fresh fruits and veggies and the occasional wooden chopstick to tear apart! Enjoy your new baby!

I must admit I give them hookbill mix, but also some apples. When I had a Amazon Redhead, I fed him lots of carrots, apples, etc. He was amazing.

How lucky! You have had an opportunity to have a view of these migrating love birds. It was two years back that I was privileged to see a pair. They really are pretty and bring joy to the heart.
