punafish, it was not in response to your comments, sorry you took it that way. The hysteria over Green Harvest is actually a Get Out of Jail Free card. Whenever government is faced with complaints over their acts, if they are presented with facts and details, they have to address the facts and details. But if they are confronted with those facts and details along with a whole bunch of complaints not attributed to their acts, they are handed a ready made diversion from dealing with the impact of their actions.

Now to answer the question of wasting money, I guess that depends on what a person believes is good expenditures. A swat team is called in to arrest a person crossing against the light. Most will say its a complete waste of money. But was the swat team there for jaywalking or something else. Since we generally don’t know the target, or what else is part of the operation, we really have nothing of the actual operation to come to any conclusion about the fiscal benefit of the operation.

I personally would think it’s a complete waste of money to expend the funds to catch a couple plants someone has for recreational use, but is that the target of Green Harvest?

I've seen a few black helicopters flying by out here but those were military birds. What's the hoopla over a black helicopter anyhow? Sounds from what I've heard it's simple training operations.

The target wasn't/isn't the "grower" of adult personal use, but since any "growing" is technically illegal under federal law, the feds will remove any plants they find that are not listed on the medical use permits.

The real targets are the drug dealers. These are the people that have hundreds of plants, often on public lands, in forest preserves, they have weapons, large amounts of cash, and usually have other illegal drugs for sale as well such as ice, cocaine, crack, heroin, etc. They use pesticides, herbicides and powerful fertilizers. The feds want the cash, property, vehicles. That stuff helps pay the bills for the eradication.

A grower is the friendly guy that waves at you as you walk past his house.

A drug dealer hides from view and has things like vicious dogs, fences, tarps hung vertically to hide your view of his property, etc. to keep you away.

Paul,

TomK - attaching a spectrograph to a chopper and sniffing out marijuana, is it currently feasible do you think?

I very much doubt it and to have it "analyzed" by a machine, no, I really don't think so. Yes, I'm sure there's a spectral signature for weed but suspect it'd be so weak and drowned out by all the other signatures of surrounding plants.

We do a little bit of automatic line detection but it's not reliable and I can't see how it would work in a moving and vibrating helicopter that is looking at so much background noise.

What I think is much more likely, and think it's been mentioned in the thread, is that infrared cameras are being used in some way. That's a technology that's used all over the world, especially by the military and police forces. Quite what they'd be looking for I don't know, I don't grow pot, but any heat sources would stand out a mile.

Uh... I think the OP needs to put down the pipe... Paranoid lately? Why do you need house numbers? Emergency vehicles? Really? Call the cops, the don't come. Come on, you did watch dog the bounty hunter right? Really tho... Who cares... And besides if you got you MJ card you can grow all ya want, well, up to a certain point.

As for all these high tech imaging BS, yeah that's what it is... BS... Too much heavy growth for that crap to work. Unless you talking about thermal imagery ... really? The cost of Power would really cut into your profits. It's not worth it to run a few 600 watt HPS bulbs at 42cents per KW. Dope doesn't even go for that much anymore since it's basically legal in Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington and another 14 states including Hawaii.

So..... leave your sign down and go with flow. Other wise you might start pissing off the wrong people. Just saying.

So...are we all acknowledging that the mythical black helicopters do indeed exist? Or is it just "those crazy pot smokers" seeing black helicopters darting between the pink elephants and flying pigs? :-)

I don't smoke pot anymore...but when I did - I NEVER saw this kinda crap. LOL

Tomk,
This is beyond your background understanding. Aside from the wide range of instruments employed; this was a software matter and it’s already been solved.

ericlp,
I’ll take your reading comprehension skills as well as your lack of knowledge regarding life in Puna that’s evidently limited to a few missguided Dog the bounty hunter episodes into account. My reply to you; seek professional help.

Isn't it strange that there has been no mention of this technology anywhere on the web since 2000?
Not that I can find, at least.
(There has been, but it's all later references back to the same article).
In the meantime the company, Orincon, has been bought up by Lockheed.

Could it be that it just doesn't work? Why else would it disappear?
I think the authorities would tell anyone who would listen.

If it did work, then surely that would be the end of outdoor pot growing?
