Oh, and not that I'm proud of it, and don't talk about it often, but I did spend some time as a kickboxer. I don't particularly like violence but if it were ever needed, I can take care of it myself, even at my somewhat advanced age.

808blogger, are you just naturally stupid, or did you go to school for it? heavy penalties, you bet, cops with guns if necessary. Look at Florida, piranhas, boa constrictors. Hawaii is ideal habitat for these species, catch them being smuggled in, slap the idiot doing it with serious jail time and huge fines. Or do you enjoy listening to the coqies.

Yes I enjoy living here, thus my aversion to importing non-native species with no natural predators. Every civilized society has laws and or rules and these have always had an enforcement mechanism. The police are not the enemy, the morons who bring these items here are. If you wanted everyone to enforce the laws themselves, I assure you, you would be the first one to protest. Enforcing laws through fines and penalties is not extortion. The individuals in question had the option of following the laws and chose not to, thus the penalty.
