Banana C-section ?
#1
I have several bananas. All doing good, normal bananas- shooting leaves from the top, keiki from the bottom.
A little over a month ago I bought a red Cuban one.About 2 feet, only 2 very small and very narrow leaves .All this time it was just sitting there doing nothing until yesterday.
It self performed a huge C-section (with very little help) and got 2 still born,1 premature and 1 looking normal leaf babies.
Now the stem is less than one foot.
Is it a Cuban way or I got some weird banana?

On the second thought - I don't think he is Cuban. It looks like banana inside banana.Russian -(Russian dolls)?
Greek - (a Trojan) ?

I have two Cuban bananas and they haven't done anything so odd as that. I'm no banana expert, so I don't know heats wrong with them.

I have two cuban reds I got from Noel... they have grown really tall, but no flower yet...

Several times I've seen bananas whose tops have apparently died push a new stalk through the leaf sheath. Your basic banana resurrection. Have not seen multiple shoots as described, but sounds like the same process.

I have 2 Cuban Reds that I bought as 1-footers and they are now about 6-ft tall but haven't produced yet. They have not done what your bananas are doing, but I am not a banana expert. You might want to go on Richard Ha's blog and ask him.

Thank you, everyone.Peteadams, you sound like you have more than average knowledge of bananas.
BBR -basic banana resurrection-I am going to remember it.
At least it is a holy process.I am glad I didn't get an alien mutant .
Now it started to look normal, rolled leaf is coming from the top.

My Cuban Reds have been in the ground about 1 year and I have had 2 big bunches, I plant them in mulch and keep them covered in mulch and feed them about 2X a year. they get about 10 foot high. They like mulch and a lot of it.

There is a fellow who cuts the bananas in the gulch for goat food. They send little shoots out from the cut off trunks and just keep growing. There are also those flower bulbs that folks carve up with knives and then sprout. The leaves come out all odd and curly, that might have happened to your alien banana shoots?

This is plant cruelty! One day a flying coconut might avenge a brother!
