Birdsong
#1
We live in lower HPP, across from the ocean, and are often woken to the most wonderful birdsong, whoever he is just sings his little heart out. It's very musical with lots of pitch changes. Sometimes he goes on and on. Does anyone know what this bird might be? We get red cardinals on our lanai, but the wonderful singer never shows his/her face!

My guess would be Oma'o, the Hawaiian thrush. It's brown, about the same size and shape as a robin, has a beautiful song.

I have heard it called Chinese Thrush. A small and rather nondescript bird that sings scat like Ella Fitzgerald.
Assume the best and ask questions.

This time of year, an introduced bird, the Melodious Laughing Thrush (also called Hwamei) sings quite loudly with a lot of heart. Although their song is variable, check out this clip on you tube and see if that's your bird. Large and brown. Louder than the average bird.

Thanks everyone for replying, it sure does sound like the Melodious Laughing Thrush....but the one here can go on and on, it really is funny. What a beautiful song, I wish he/she was here all day!
