No hotels for sure and most condo bylaws forbid dogs too, so your only hope would be to find a house to rent. (That's not easy either.)

Well if anyone comes to the East side with their well behaved dog, one of my clients has a pet friendly policy VRBO 150394.

Bill, at the link posted above, has a number of pet friendly places. I think that you will be glad that you called him.

Surprisingly, the Four Seasons is "pet friendly." That's probably above the price point you had in mind. The Four Seasons on Maui and Lana'i advertise their pet friendly policy, so I checked and yes, Hualalai is listed as such. []
btw, in Waikoloa Village, the Elima Lani condo complex is one of the only ones that allows pets (small). It is partly vacation rentals, part long term residents.

One night is tough, deborah. Most rentals don't want one night, and yes you have to pay the same cleaning fee as if you stayed a week ...
Especially with a dog, they have to clean really well for people who have allergies. I have dog allergies, and one hair would be enough to make my eyes swell closed. So the cleaning fee is a reasonable requirement, dog or no dog. A B&B rate includes cleaning, but finding one that takes a dog that size I would be surprised. Maybe south of Kona, where it's more alternative. You need a very unusual rental. I would try advertising on craigslist. Maybe someone has a guest house they would not mind making extra money on.

You probably would be better off to put the dog in a kennel for that day.

I was thinking that too, but I'm sure deborah doesn't want to think about that. Maybe a paid dog-sitter at home for the one day?

If nothing else Barking Dog Kennels is here in Orchidland and they seem to take very good care of the animals they board, you might stop by and take a look.
