Hawaii already is one of the most restrictive states. What are they trying to pass to make it more restrictive? The Court has recently ruled on this issue so they can only go so far. It would be a real shame if the State is needlessly getting itself involved in costly litigation that it will surely lose.

I have never needed a "permit"
As long as criminals have guns, I will have mine as well.

People whine about this all the time with no justification. You barely need anything for a long gun and to get a handgun permit only requires taking the hunter safety course, which isn't sufficient. The last restriction on gun ownership was the assault weapon ban (and I'm going to bet the guy I ran into on Kauai in full camo gear with an AR-15 wasn't just hunting pig). Ever since then gun nuts have managed to erode the most common-sense restrictions, to allow mentally ill people and yes, outlaws to legally buy guns. Guns in bars? Sure! What could possibly go wrong?!

I had heard that if a person moves to the Big Island from the mainland, they could bring firearms, but had to take them to a police station within a few days to register them. What about hand guns? Can I bring a few hand guns to Hawaii as long as I register them, or is that possible?
I had a concealed weapons permit for many years in Washington State, but just let it expire as I never carry anyway.I competed for many years in 100 meter and 200 meter handgun competition (as in metallic silhouete shooting), and some bowling pin competition.I don't hunt but like to go target shooting sometimes.

I brought my two handguns on a shipping container with the rest of my household goods and have no intention of registering them. What's the point? They are for protection, not hunting, at least in my case. But if the damn pigs don't leave my avocados alone, I may revise my position [
