Good walking "sandal shoes"
#11
All I wear are keen.
I have always bought all my keen shoes and sandals through ebay. The best prices there for sure.

Went into Famous Footwear today. They have ZERO women's closed-toe sandals. They have multiple choices for boys and men -- Tevo, Skechers, even Buster Brown (!) (none of which fit me), but none for women. I can't order anything online w/o trying them on first. Sigh.

Maybe all you need Pog, but some of us spend 10+ hour days standing and walking on concrete floors. I would love to be able to wear slippers all day, and will when I retire, but until then I need something with arch support. If you think that makes me a certain kind of person (judging from your poll on another thread) so be it.

Carol,

I work 8-10 + hours a day standing @ a table on a concrete surface.

The slippas pic was for fun ... Should've put a " : ) " on it.

Has everyone lost their sense of humor here ???

Everyone tells me I'm abusing my feet, but they're just as comfortable wearing a pair of "Rainbows" all day long as any arch supporting shoe:

They last long enough for the foam to crush down where your weight goes, so you get a "custom fit" arch support after they break in. The only problem I have with them is if I'm walking long distances (think a mile+) in loose sand terrain, the sand gets inbetween the strap and my foot and rubs a raw spot - you would think it would callous, but I guess I don't do it often enough.

There were other brands I liked 25+ years ago when I started wearing flip-flops daily, but Rainbow is the only one I can still find.

Trevor,

Not sure if you ever tried or not ... But the cheap ones do not do this to you.

The best of the cheap ones are the from Cobian. I just went back to them and Locals after trying out the Nike and Adidas over the summer. The Locals and Surfahs are easier to replace one the way home from a blowout though.

The Scotts probably look tempting to folks since they have a molded in arch but its not positioned well + the straps are too long so they fall off your feet and only get worse as the sole compresses and the straps stretch.

I know they are hard @ first but seriously, like a 'good' pair of shoes, the Locals ones really do break in and work nice. Buy them a little small as the sole get bigger as it forms to your foot.

Been wearing Nike slide type slippahs for 10 years. Great support, very comfy, and can walk as far in them as a pair of shoes. They also weigh next to nothing. http://www.amazon.com/Nike-Mens-Solarsof..._4?ie=UTF8&qid=1294055866&sr=8-4

I love my Keens. Thats all I wear in the summer. I have several pairs of sandals and Keen walking shoes as well. They are designed to fit the human foot but are a tad on the ugly side for that reason. The heavy duty closed toe sandal design really protects the tootsies. On the islands you probably have to buy on line such as REI Stores. Best thing is the soles are super durable except don't take them out on the lava (use your crappy worn out boots for that). One big downside if you wear them wet they can tend to rub and give you blisters. If you are doing allot of water hikng I recommend adding short socks to protect against that.
