How do you know you are in Puna?

From Robert - when they give you a neighborhood watch sign for your truck because you cruise so much back and forth in the neighborhood from one house to the other working on both and every tool you need is at which ever house you aren't at!

when you explain to guests that the "transfer station" sign does indicate a public transportation stop

When the guy who hit your car on the road happily explains to you that the cop on the scene has the same last name because it's his cousin.

When a local guy on a bicycle comes down the street selling fresh Ono for ten bucks for a two pound chunk from the backpack he's wearing. (And it was yummy.)

You don't REALLY want to weed whack, but it is a PERFECT morning, so you get out the weed whacker, make sure the string is just so, plug it in, start whacking, and then it rains...

You ride the bus at the same time a young gentleman rides for a few months, change your schedule & over the holidays the young man comes up to you at the mall and says "Auntie, I haven't seen you on the bus, How are you?"

A young man you have never spoken to calls you "Auntie"

Everyone knows what mall I am talking about.

Carey:"You don't REALLY want to weed whack, but it is a PERFECT morning, so you get out the weed whacker, make sure the string is just so, plug it in, start whacking, and then it rains..."

And that's OK because now your weedwhacker is ready for the next time and you REALLY didn't want to weedwhack anyway.

After two 60 hr work weeks this thread has me laughing. I am pretty cranky right now so this is big.

I brought my 22 yr. old ex Marine son to the Big Island with us as a treat last Sept. He called me the other day and asked if we could smuggle a couple of cocqui frogs back to Texas on our next visit. Seems he hasn't had a decent night's sleep since we came back.
