A police officer told me yesterday that they had a "warrant sweep" going on -- local police, FBI and another entity I can't recall right now. They were expecting to pick up 30 scofflaws out there with open warrants. Not sure if he meant the whole island or just Hilo side, but he said there were 13 in HPP alone. I said it sure seems like the Big Island has more than its share of people hiding out, and he said, "There's sure a lot of places to hide." Interesting the paper had nothing on it. We'll probably see it in there like in a week or two.

For obvious reasons they probably didn't want it published until they were done, at which time they will undoubtly issue a press release.

Remember some of these can be for traffic (including insurance, registration, and safety violations), not all hardened criminals some simply lame traffic issues.
Someone who is trying to feed their family now on one job instead of 2 or 3 like before... I can understand driving with out registration to be able to buy dinner.
I thought at one time instead of fining people, have one day only that you can come in and pay the registration if this is the only time you have been late, no additional fees, and get up to date. People who are already behind are not getting caught up by having more fines issued.
I guess this one just makes me mad as I have a friend who didnt have money but had to drive to work (bus wasnt close) - not to get stoned with friends at beach, and got 3 no reg/safety so much so same cop doubled checked insurance card over phone.
