Probably way out of your way, but I just found out that the Cooper center and Volcano playground area has free wifi. Angela

Starbucks in Hilo has free Wifi and there is no password. You just come to a webpage that asks to agree to some corporate stupidity terms of use. I used it last week myself.

The Kava Bar on Bayfront has free wifi but you have to buy something. Also, Bear's Coffee has free wifi with a purchase.

In Pahoa, the Museum Cafe has free wifi with a purchase and Pahoa Video offer wifi for $3 as long as they are open which is like buying a drink at any other establishment.

Royall, I too was shocked when staying in a high priced hotel when an airline screwed up my flight. The rooms were usually $200 a night and they wanted $15 for Internet use per night! The woman at the front desk told me in confidence that they charge that much because they are used to getting wealthier patrons that can afford to pay and business travelers put it on the company account.

Ain't capitalism grand?

Obie posted this link a few months ago, might help find something:
"You can use this web site

http://www.wififreespot.com/

Not much available in Hilo."

That website is useless and for spammers (The CD Wizard for one). It did not even list any that I use in real life.

Top marks to McDonalds for providing free wireless in almost all their stores world-wide. So now you have free wifi in easy-to-find and ubiquitous locations. I never thought I'd set foot in a McD's again until this happened! Ain't capitalism grand?

Yes, they use it as a lever to get chumps to eat their cancerous and obesity enhancing foods. I still do not step foot in a mcdonalds.

Just want to mention that someone here via email actually was kind enough to offer access to an online computer plus printer to my friend at their home. I won't mention who it was, obviously, but want to point out that there are some very special people here and this person is one of them. We didn't need that help and access in the end, but I can't say enough about how grateful we were just to get that offer.

Thank you so much - you know who you are!
