Hele On
#11
Ole'man left car at the airport; brother got into a car accident on Oahu (brother's ok but was in intensive care). He forgot to text that it was at the KONA airport (went to pick up stuff in Waikoloa). Aunty bought ticket for him and others at the spur of the moment. Guess he thought it was evident that he left from Kona. I'll smack him for it later when things quiet down; I mean, really rough like.

Most of my neighbor's are snowbirds and the others are behaving like Kona is as far away as Mexico....so...gots ta go by myself. I feel guilty about being really mad and I've been practicing my very own "no, that's too far, too much, to early, to late" future responses.
I know I shouldn't, I probably won't be able to, but I want to.

I have to go today; wish me luck. Never had to use public transportation before, I'm scared....pffff.

Hele on office is closed, I'll try them later today.

C and C taxi says $28 from Kmart/Macys to the airport.
I guess about 6 miles total.

Internet says women walk 2 miles per hour; that's a 3 hour walk.

I could read Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club in that time.

I'm flabberghasted at how peeps react to a 2 hour ride to Kona. I lived in Tucson for a couple of years and my business partner said he'd always dreamed of going to San Diego. He had a brand new truck, owned a nice house and ran personal bills of a few thousand a month.

I threw his butt in the car and we drove the 6 hours to San Diego.

Can you imagine? 45 years old already and it was just 6 hours away?

I don't get it.

I gotta laugh about the reaction we have gotten...with hubby working "way over there" by the Kona airport!.... both for driving that far & for the taking the bus! (I find the bus ride to be calming & the view from "way up" is breathtaking (and sooo much better when you do not have to keep your eyes on the road!)

Would love it if the bus had more options...and we really do appreciate the service we have now (never lived in a town with public bus, only trains (one route only!)... and always lived a trek to the stations....so the ability to travel on a bus to sooo many other destinations on this island, is kinda nice! (of course, where we decided to live was partly because of the good public transportation service....cannot beat Keaau for route options!)

I have taken the bus to Kona a few times, have driven the route many times & hubby does it weekly... for right now, the drive over Saddle is really nice, as there is no construction...but the next 2 legs of the realignment will have to be tied in at some points, so there will be more construction...but for now it is easy breezy!

Funny how attitudes change...when we lived in DC, if someone had asked us to pick them up at the airport in Delaware, we would have looked at them like they were crazy...but here, if folks ask us to pick them up in Kona, we say "Ok, what time?" and then add enough time to pick up a lei on the way.
