Hi all
I'm currently living at a farm on Maui and looking to purchase land to start a poultry and aquaponics farm. Prices are a bit out of my budget on Maui so I'm looking in to the Big Island. (off grid and more than 2 acres)
What is your recommendation about how to go about finding land?
Much appreciated, thanks in advance

For the Aquaponics, most particularly if you're interested in Tilapia and/or Catfish, the temperature lower limit is about 55 degrees. In some areas on the island, you would have to provide summer shade.
In Eden Roc you would have to harvest them every single year and buy new fingerlings from someone.
I'd want my Aquaponics and Hydroponics to co-habitate, so to speak.
Hawaiian acres are 3 acres, have the right temperature ranges and can be scored for a great deal right now. But you have to find the right street with the right neighbors and all that jazz.

Extended (as possible) visits. Pay attention to elevation and windward/leeward for temperature and rainfall. Look in Puna, Kau and South Kona districts for "value".

There is beautiful off the grid land on the Hilo-Hamakua coast. Deep soil, great weather. Ninole, above Laupahoehoe, Hakalau, above O'okala, Pa'auillo, amazing land with amazing views. Costs more than Puna, but check it out. Some parcels include streams. Up Kaiwiki above Wainaku as well.

Lots of 3 acre lots still available in the 15k price range. Though they are long an narrow, maybe 2 side-by-side would suit your needs.

And streams mean electric power. Mini hydro electric systems are quite common in this area and provide power 24/7/365 unlike wind or solar. And they are quite inexpensive.
