Have seen some discussion here about various internet speeds.
I'm just a simple user and not savvy on the tech talk.
However, received an email today from Governor Abercrombie advocating the state's initiative and linking to this test:

@7:12pm these were the results at our place, 6th HPP:
download = 2.5Mbps
upload = 628 Kbps

James, I just checked using their test
download=3.05Mbps
upload=738 kbps
I then used speedtest.net and got slightly worse results. But what I like about speedtest.net is that it gives a "grade" as to you compared with the nation and globally and it keeps a graph of your results. We are pretty much dead last in speeds. I would love to hear what Roadrunner customers in the park are getting.

Actaul Hughes Satellite Internet speeds;
DOWNLOAD SPEED:533.00 Kbps
UPLOAD SPEED:145.00 Kbps
Not what we are paying for!
As a former mainland Viacom cable user... don't use Hughes Satellite Internet unless you've no other viable alternative, it's slow and unreliable.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the results of that speed test. The results I received were substantially lower than I got from raw downloads or other speed test sites, such as
http://www.speedtest.net/
For example, the Hawaii Broadband Initiative speed test resulted in a 9.72Mbps /951Kbps. This is much less than 14Mbps I get off Speedtest.net's server in Honolulu- YMMV.
