Leilani Bronson Crelly - HD4
#1
Any thoughts? Good, bad, indifferent?

I had one opinion and now with more info I am contemplating changing. And we only have a little time left till the primary.

From her page - http://www.vote4leilani.com/?page_id=2

Leilani and her husband, Craig Crelly, now live in Hawaiian Paradise Park. Most recently, Leilani has served the HPP Owner’s Association as watch dog and chairwoman for several committees including the Fugitive Dust Committee. Two years ago she also served as a volunteer on Senator Russell Ruderman’s campaign for State Senate.

Considering the alternatives, I don't think she's the most qualified for the position.

Not sure I understand. You quote from her bio, which has been public for more than two months. She has lived in HPP since 2005. That would be for the last 9 years. She's lived in Hawaii since she was a child. She has been active in her subdivision for years, serving with the esteemed Mr Weatherford on a few committees, if I understand the situation. She worked for Senator Ruderman two years ago. All true. I guess if you don't support Russell Ruderman, you shouldn't support Leilani. But if you do agree with Russell Ruderman, then you would be hard pressed to convince him that others in this race are more qualified for this position. I don't know who he's going to vote for, but I do know who he is not going to vote for.

This thread feels like it's trying to be an October surprise except there isn't any surprise. Leilani is a straight shooter. Never hid anything. Never budged an inch on her stated opinions just to scare up a few more votes. (Yeah, Joy, I'm aiming that one at you... nobody gets to be in favor of GMO labeling and also in favor of letting the Feds tell us what to do... you either changed your mind or you are lying now.)

So yeah, I guess this is the last two weeks, when the gloves come off and all that high rhetoric gets tossed out the window. Time to get muddy...

Back when I first went over her page 5 weeks ago, I missed the watchdog of HPP part or it didn't register at the time. The HPP drama had not exploded at that time so that may have been it too.

There hasn't been much chatter on PW about the candidates for this position so I was looking for information as I make out my final list.

I like and admire Dr Noelie who endorsed her. I like and admire James who doesn't.

What to do as time winds down.

You'll have to forgive me. I don't live in HPP and as such I don't know what "the HPP drama" is. I do know James Weatherford and I also admire him, for having tried twice to serve on the county council. He would have made a thorough and intelligent county council person. Perhaps a bit prickly at times, but certainly more than qualified for the job, and certainly better than young Mr Ilagan, IMO. What might have been, eh? So anyway, that being said, I do also notice now that he and his wife have not much good to say about Leilani. I know they were all three active in their owner's association at one point, so the rift undoubtedly was born during that mutual service, but again, I don't live there so I don't really know any details. Just that all three of them cared enough about their community to give of themselves to try and make it better.

What interests me is why we all need this new thread dedicated to re-examining only Leilani Bronson-Crelly, and why now? Two weeks before we all vote, we are encouraged to "dig a little further" ... and examine Leilani Bronson-Crelly. Not Brian Jordan, who seems an admirable educator and self-described "pit bull," don't bother with him. He's okay. And don't bother with Faye, who disdains anyone who cannot understand her Hawaiian language speeches with the thundering admonition,"don't try to dominate... integrate!" No dirt there... move along please. And don't worry about sweet Julia Peleiholani, there's no dirt there... and actually I would agree, she's a genuine aloha spirit and I loved listening to her teach us all about Puna during the campaign. And of course don't try to find any dirt on Joy SanBuenaventura, Esquire, the Hilo lawyer who rode into town last February with her carpet bag in tow... now, I've got nothing against Hilo folks who run for public office. Bob Marx is a Hilo lawyer who ran for public office. I voted for him. Ken Goodenow, Joy's Treasurer, ran for the Hilo county council seat back in 2012. Joy's got lots of Hilo friends... and she cleverly steered clear of all that "HPP drama" that now warrants all this sudden careful scrutiny by NOT volunteering to work with HPPOA, and NOT giving of her time to make HPP a better place. So good on her... I just don't see why all that makes her more qualified to represent the people of Puna. Or why Leilani, of all the candidates, is the only one suddenly under a microscope.

The video from recent Puna Pono Alliance

At 02:30 / 48:45 Ms. Bronson-Crelly says she "Chaired the [HPP] Fugitive Dust Committee and also the Puna Makai Alternate Route Committee." She did not chair the latter committee; Jerry Carr did. Ms Bronson-Crelly's contribution was minimal at best.

I don't think she was claiming to have chaired both, James. Just listing the various committees she took part in. Trying to do her part to help HPPOA. Her website makes no claim as to having chaired the PMAR group, so can we chalk this one up to a misunderstanding? Thanks for digging though. I assume your fair and balanced critical reporting of all the other candidates will be forthcoming in future posts?

Aloha Davinci,

We shall agree to disagree on what was said.
I listened to it more than once.
She said, "I chaired the Fugitive Dust Committee and also the Puna Makai Alternate Route Committee." That is a claim to chairing both.
Not only did she not chair, she wasted a lot of the committee's time on futile and petulant matters, as I (and others) have seen her do at various HPPOA meetings.
