Gym Anyone?
#11
But remember, the 50,000 Punatics don't all read Punaweb. If you are serious about doing this, you will need to find ways to reach out to people beyond Punaweb. Churches, civic groups, and neighborhood associations all often have newsletters where anyone can put a listing for free, which might help reach a wider audience.

For what its worth, my thoughts on fitness memberships: Many years ago I joined a fitness club, and soon discovered it was time-consuming to drive back and forth (not to mention gas, etc.), and that I really didn't need all the fancy-schmancy equipment they had. If there was/is value, it's in the potential to build community and friendship through various classes like yoga, sports activities, etc.--but it's not enough to attract me at this stage of my life. After moving here I bought a $100 (plus $40 for shipping) jungle-gym thingie on Amazon (made in China, of course), assembled it and put on my lanai. It's got everything I need to do push-ups, pull-ups, vertical crunches, dips, squats, etc. And on sunny days I swim in the ocean.

Not saying a gym wouldn't work. But I'm wondering if classes, activities and "the human touch" might be more of a draw than a small place merely stocked with exercise equipment?

Pilates was invented by an athlete who was locked up for a long time in a small cell during World War II who didn't want to lose his muscle tone, after he was released he designed sets of exercises and super adjustable equipment to go with them, it all uses resistance and highly controlled movements that work specific sets of muscles in specific ways. A lot of Pilates instructors started out as physical therapists and work with clients to develop the exact work out they need, especially for people dealing with chronic conditions or injuries.

The only people doing Pilates in a real way here are on the Kona side.

NEW PILATES STUDIO WITH REFORMERS IN PUNA/KAPOHO!

Thank you Fawn...for posting that you have an actual studio WITH TWO REFORMER MACHINES! I had no idea you were so close by and have not one but two actual Reformers in addition to all of your other accessories and all of your other classes you teach. I think many folks out there would benefit from having private or semi-private sessions. I have've had four sessions and notice a marked improvement. Thank you for being here in the Puna/Kapoho area...sure beats having to drive into Hilo for mat classes.

WHAT A RARE FIND...DEFINITELY CHECK HER OUT! I had Reformer sessions on the mainland and they were $95.00 per session...your prices are affordable and it pays to invest in one's body, flexibility, stamina and REJUVENATION....MANY THANKS!

I too am glad there is a pilates studio in Puna now, I just wish it wasn't so far from my house in HPP. I strongly feel that I would have been able to avoid my recent surgery if I had been doing pilates regularly. I am going to have to figure out if I could realistically make it to Kapoho the two or three times a week needed to really get the full benefit from pilates.

Carol! It is not too far...I too was concerned about the distance but I am feeling the benefits of using the Pilates Cadillac/Reformer!

I have done mat work in the past and it was good, but the resistance the Reformer offers cannot be achieved via mat work. If you have a friend take advantage of the Semi Private classes. I could not believe that anyone on this side would have a Reformer.

She has two units one is a STOTT PILATES V2 MAX Plus Professional Reformer, the other is also a STOTTT unit. I look forward to my sessions and I do not have to drive all the way to Hilo!

I feel that flexibility, lengthening of the muscles, agility and balance are the corner stone to longevity. We are all marching towards those legendary Golden Years....Someone lied...they are not Golden more like The Tarnished Era.

Check out FAWN...she is excellent!

Roadrunner,
I probably would feel differently about the drive down to Kapoho if I didn't already drive to Hilo 5 days a week for work.

Wow!! A Daily... a commute is tiring, not to mention the stress of work week. Maybe in the future, or maybe you might have a friend that lives in Pahoa or HPP that you could car pool with, you could leave your car at Malama Market or maybe you have a friend in HPP that would drive and take a Semi-Private sessions with you. I know she mentioned that she had some ladies that were looking to pair up with someone for Semi-Private Sessions. I hope you are on the road to recovery, you mentioned surgery in a previous post. Recovery does take time. Feel better soon! R.R.
