Pog - damn good advice. Thanks. Anna - thank you and so good to see you around again! Dayna, you wouldn't believe the list of everything Pam has gone through or done!

Liskir - your initial post was removed because it was inappropriate and insulting to Pam. She has forgotten more about Lupus treatments and the effect the disease has on people than you will ever learn about the illness. Despite the crippling and painful symptoms she suffers and a diagnosis that usually leads to death well before the age of 50, Pam is still here to continue her lupus charity work and enjoy what she can from a life that has been extended by western medicine and her own strength of character. And I would like to think a little bit of love and care from me.

You are not a trained doctor. You are not an expert on Lupus like Pam. Even if you were, you have no business telling Pam what she has to do to cure herself. Learn a lesson here. Other people in this thread have not told Pam what to do. Some have kindly suggested things while also offering their love and support. You told Pam she could cure herself without having the faintest idea what is wrong with her.

Kindly delete your latest self-serving post from this thread and go away. Post your 100% guaranteed witch-doctor voodoo cures in another thread, I don't care which one, but I do care about Pam.

Get the message?

Sorry to post this, everyone, but liskir has gone beyond the line, not got the message and really pissed me off (yes, I know, Pog). In the meantime, Pam is back in touch and has asked me to thank all of you. She has managed to read this thread (I was hoping it wouldn't be with liskir's unhelpful contribution but there you go). I've encouraged her to post a thank you here but that might take a little more persuasion! In any case I can tell you she is incredibly moved by everyone's thoughts and is incredibly grateful.

Thank you again, everyone. What a wonderful bunch of people.

Tom and Pam, I am also part of Puna Baptist Church and we will pray for you and Pam faithfully. Since moving here to the Puna area, I have developed some precious friendships with other women. One in particular also has some cognitive dysfunction and one thing I do to help her is take her on hikes. Our hikes used to be more challanging but she had too many problems so I take her on flat ground walks at least once a week, sometimes more. It takes her away from the house and clears out her mind and she and I talk, share and laugh. I noticed with my friend, she suffers momentary episodes of depression and the walking helps her so much.

I pray that Pam might be so fortunate to have a close friend who will take time to take her for a drive or a walk if she is able. The goal for me is to let my friend know she is still beautiful, priceless and very much a part of our lives. There will be no improvement for my friend and I do grieve for her. Her husband suffers too but he chooses to be in denial, not accepting that his wife will never be that strong, athletic companion he loved. So I pray for him too because he suffers in a different way, probably similar to what you are experiencing.

Find the inner strength within your self to be strong for your wife. She will need you during this time. And please know, as a Christian, I personally know of a Strength and a Love that surpasses anything we can find in ourselves. Call on Jesus...it's an option that will help you and Pam.

TomK,
I'm sorry you and Pam are going through tough times and emotions are riding high, but please read my message again. I'm not dictating anything to anyone. I'm simply offering options that others have used successfully to cure themselves. If you prefer to pass them off as voodoo, that is your prerogative, but to me, options are better than none. I meant no disrespect and no harm. You do not know me nor my path so please refrain from personal attack of those trying to help. I wish you both well.

Aloha Tom and Pam,

My prayers go out to you both, it sounds like you have had a struggle already and another to come. I am sad you can not be together until March to give the much needed support, my heart goes out to you. Life does hand us each a different set of cards and for you I hope your cards get a whole lot better. My prayer is for your physical and spiritual healing. Hold on tight!

Tom,
our thoughts & prayers are with you two. I was reminded of how much your sharing of the mountain to all of us means today, as we were up there, with the breathtaking views and wind.

I have no idea if this will help, but my mom was on dialysis, and there were times she had toxin based dementia stuff.... it helped her to have some of her old favorite songs, some silly & some beautiful (she had spent her life around music & song)... they seems to ground her & calm her & she would remember events & people based on songs.

It also helped me that a counselor helped me work through some of the issues I was having (often mom would not know who I was... & I was in my early 20's & didn't quite grasp how different her cognitive reasoning had become & the changed functions we had to undertake ...& it really did help to have someone to talk through and guide me through the issues I was having to deal with...)

To both of you, I will pray for peace....

Carrie, Nana Valley, Morningstar and Carey - thank you! Just too tired to respond more than that this evening what with everything else going on, but in any case I can't find the right words to say how much I appreciate all your thoughts. There are so many very special people is about all I can think of right now!

Thank you again!

Tom, thank you so much for posting this and for your support and love Smile and I want to thank all of you who posted here. Everything each of you said encouraged me very much and got me through my first set of tests. I don't know the results for the cognitive stuff except that some deficits did show up. Also my blood work just happened to show that my IgG level is very low and I am very vulnerable to infection (no wonder I've been catching one horrible thing after another even though I haven't been leaving the house that much!). It is recommended that I get gamma globulin every three months; I have to get up my courage since things like blood transfusions already scared me, since I have a phobia of other people's blood. I should get the cognitive results soon, am nervous...all of your thoughts and prayers tough my heart and are giving me courage. My prayers are for you.
