Firewood Project
#1
Our wonderful Michael has contiued to gather firewood offerings from a neighborhood in Lilani states, keepsing several older ladies in Volcano in firewood this wet cold sasn as well as ourselvs. H is wokeng very hard and has brought wevral truck and trailer loadss o wood home. It's mre than one man can do.

I am too weak still to lift wood. He sometimes has to use a chainsaw and cut the trees up himself and sometimes the Lilani owners cut it up ifirst.

We have had a request to cut up and haul away at least three or four trees this week. We need help. If you have a chainsaw or a truck, this even better. If YOU need firewood you can share in the wealth of gathering if you bring your truck and help haul half a truck load up to us.

Please if anyone can help, even if you don't us a chainsaw, just helping load would be a big deal.

Thank you for anythin you can do... Pam Lamont pslamont@yahoo.com

I am a little disappointed. 90 views and no answers here. We haev had one phone response from man with a truck ad chain saw. so thank you Dorian (a noted author and photographer in Vlocano) wh is willing to help serve his community. What makes Punaweb such a wonderful community is that we take care of one another on so many different levels. Please if you can, jump in for half a day.... Pam 345-8440 I think Thursday is wood day this week week.

Saw chains and operator are in need of revamp right now. Will work on those for future. Have truck, saw, and lots of experience. What type of wood? Green, dry, softwood, hardwood? Rocky, muddy? Old body, but can run a saw like playin a fiddle.

that was a bit harsh pam.. alot of people do a variety of volunteer work to help the puna community; maybe not your pet project but that does not mean they are not doing their part...lots of good puna folk, dont be disappointed....

Not to sound like it's going to sound, but case in point: I have a truck and a chainsaw, but after three part-time jobs (and lots of trips to Hilo) I can barely find time to keep my own yard in check -- otherwise, I'd love to help out.

Yeah Pam, But there are greener ways to keep warm. It's only in the 50+'s. Silk long johns, blankets, Robe and fuzzy Slippers...Jacket?

One degree at 10 am at my place back in the mainland.

But probably more about driving the dampness out than actual temperature change. 50% damp can be very bone chilling chilly. 50% and dry is just brisk and maybe time for a sweater.

In the chilly mornings, I just turn on a couple of stovetop burners and the ceiling fan for about 15 minutes and it chases the chill away. First am chore: bake a cake!
I lived on a 6 acre woodlot in Cal. with hundreds of cords of free wood. I burned 6-9 cords a year and had to quit burning wood for health reasons. Free heat and free lung disease.

I have found that Punwebbers are really great for rallying immediately when there is an immediate need (as in tsunami & VOG issues)

I have also found that trying to guilt anyone for ongoing volunteer requests tends to backfire... Gentle reminders, with specifics (time date other info) enough so that people can plan ahead & see if they can "afford" & schedule the time, gas, energy & such tend to work much better for multiple year/volunteer requests (like the beach cleanups).

For multiple volunteer requests/year projects as this has become, perhaps working with some of the community service groups, and scheduling it as an event in the events section here & other resources may also help, and if you are really lucky, some other group may find it is within their mission! (as with the sweet potato project we had started)
