I call that "read and release," and trade with a couple of groups of friends. Just have to remember which group I got it from and offer it to the other group.

Sharing of physical artifacts (books, CDs) is specifically allowed by "first-sale doctrine".

E-books and MP3 downloads, not so much.

To be noted:

According to the masters you may share your cd with someone, but they may not copy the cd onto another disc - legally.

I've had a Kindle Paperwhite for a few months now and it is wonderful. With the built-in light you can read anywhere you want, no more restriction on reading under another light source.

Sometimes Jim I have the idea you would be pissed off if you won the lottery when it came time to pay the taxes. Now I fully understand what a Troll is.

Amazon has a specific policy of allowing "loaning" books to others, I was not talking abou breaking any laws. It would also be a nice place to post "free" books that are obscure and hard to find which are only offered for a few days at different times.

I am just amazed at folks who are always looking for a problem with any suggestion. This was just a friendly thought, if anybody wants to go for it, I will contribute.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Sorry if my comments rubbed you the wrong way. Typically you will be disappointed if you assume all replies will be agreeable to your opinions - that's the whole point of "discussion"

As often happens words typed by one individual can be misunderstood or misconstrued by another - I meant no ill will toward you in my comments, I just thought I would be the first to point out that "sharing" as you call it is defined legally as piracy and comes with repercussions

I in no way support such draconian laws, however, I do point out the realities of the world we live in when I feel like it could honestly help others

You and anyone else can use the word troll all you want, but it's obvious to me that in any instance someone makes a remark you do not understand or agree with it must be fair to throw in the "T" word (troll)

I love my kindle fire! Use it daily it's easy and fast..
But by the time I've read my e-mail's, checked the local- Alaska and Hilo and national news, the Hawaii & Alaska Craigs list and of course Puna web I hardly have time to peek at face book!
Oh how I wish I had the time that I could read a GOOD old paper book..... I just would love taking a good book to the tub and watch the pages get all wavy by my misused as I soak and soak the evening away!

Sharing Book on Kindle: If both Kindles are registered to the same Amazon.com account, you can share books by simply downloading them to each Kindle. If the Kindles are registered to separate accounts, there is a way to share books.

Check that the book is able to be lent out. Publishers decide whether books can be loaned, so not all books will be available. Look under the product details of the book on your Kindle device. If the book can be loaned out, it will say "Lending: Enabled."

Go to the "Actions" menu and look for the link marked "Loan this title." As long as the book can be loaned, this link will be there.

Click "Loan this title."

Fill in the following form with the name of the other Kindle owner and her emailaddress.

Click "Send now." The book will be sent to the other user. The loaned book will be available for 14 days.

Click on the button "Get your loaned book now" on the Kindle receiving the book.

Choose the device you want the book to go to and click "Accept."

I use the kindle download on both a iPad and a laptop, it's a free program from amazon. I have over 500 books on it and it takes up a lot less road then books. Unless you need a kindle I can't see you would buy one.

I like it here in the shallow end of the gene pool
