I agree, the plastic bag laws are BS but it's not so much the money as it is all the other things attached to it. I'm surprised the stores haven't taken these laws to court with regard to breaching store security measures. I remember there being stores years ago that would not allow people to bring bags or backpacks into stores.

People like Jefferson, Bastiat, and Franklin were able to accomplish the things they did, because they didn't spend a lot of time worrying about how to carry groceries.

They would have thought government telling you or a business what container to use as completely absurd and utterly ineffectual in actually effecting change in human behavior for the positive.
If Jefferson had a consistent & well thought out philosophy of Liberty, how did his ownership of slaves fit into that philosophy? I would think most (all?) of his slaves had no liberty and were forced to work for him. The Civil War was pretty effectual in changing human behavior, for the positive, for the slaves. The Big Island bag law can also have a positive affect, and sometimes a law and a 5 cent charge at the till is all it takes.

There's now so many laws that not one single person or entity - government or otherwise - even claims to know them all. I don't know about you but that's not the kind of world I want my children to grow up in. I think Kalakoa hit the nail on the head in another post ...

The obvious problem being that which "some" will change whenever different people are elected, or enough "lobbying" occurs, or as a knee-jerk reaction to the latest tragedy.
I think it's a huge waste of resources to worry about plastic bags as our civil liberties are eroding around us and we start unprovoked (aggressor) wars all over the world. We've been at war for 10+ years now (the longest in the entire history of our once great nation) and what are we talking about ? Roundabouts and plastic bags. It's time for an intellectual awakening or soon enough we'll all be in chains.

Yeah the whole plastic bag flap is much ado about nothing.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I agree... Here's a few of the links I visit daily. Assuming it's republican vs. democrat is a persons first mistake, that's just a diversion.

We have always reused/recycled our shopping bags. Usually for holding trash or dog crap. The supply we had has now been used up, so now we have to go buy plastic bags that will never be recycled to replace the ones that we were recycling. Net benefit to the environment is negative. And agree with Oregonwoodsmoke... the few times I actually do remember to bring the reusable bags I'll be distributing a fair amount of dog hair into the produce section of the store (and our dogs get Revolution about every month, so it will be full of chemicals), then probably dragging some salmonella juices onto the conveyor belt at the check out, so be sure to wash your food thoroughly after you get it home. But feel good about.... actually I'm not sure what you should feel good about, I'll be buying as many plastic bags that I used to get for free, and your food prices are higher because of the ban and the ocean currents from Asia will still be dragging as many plastic bags into our biosphere as before so feel good about... I don't know, taking our liberties away?

Consider the source of the article - The Orange County Register. An extrememly conservative newspaper in an extremely conservative county. They only had to travel 500 miles to San Francisco and maybe 1000 miles to Seattle to find two examples to prove their point. Travel far enough, and you can prove anything.

1) no bag ban in OC (at least not at my RSM Albertsons - where I stand in line with all the local maids to do my shopping when at my other place... they all seem to be driving better cars as than I do as well well "Hun could you pull out the Cayenne for Maria we need some eggs" - grin Its trip they usually buy two orders one on account and the other with food stamps....... ah culture......
They had to go somewhere else to do some fact finding so the local population can make an informed choice.........
2) The register owned by a national media syndicate - just like the trib I believe - there are very few real "local" outlets as well LA Times on the block as well........
