I've been smelling the H2S for the last 30 minutes here in Kehena Beach. One of the PGV monitors hit 16ppb at about 4:20. It is now back to normal.

It hit 1.6 ppb not 16.0.

The lowest alert level is 5.0 ppb.

A non issue other than having to reset my clocks !!

With easterly winds right up to 6pm this evening, I'm curious as to how H2S could have been smelled at that time on Kehena Beach if it came from the PGV a couple of hours earlier. Anyone have an answer?

I checked the vog map and it doesn't indicate any vog hitting the area around Seaview (I presume Kehena Beach and Seaview are one and the same or close enough?). I had suspected vog was what he smelled...not so.[?]

Civil Defense: No danger from PGV incident
Hawaii County Civil Defense says the Puna Geothermal Venture facility tripped offline this afternoon. Steam was released through a safety valve. There is no danger to the public at this time.

You are wrong. PGV's online page showed H2S detector B with a reading of 16ppb. When I talked to PGV last night they said they detected levels of 19ppb.

Given the very weak trades that just started back yesterday afternoon, it is unsurprising that the gas was able to meander its way to my house, 6 miles from PGV.

No, cheerleader Obie, there was no danger from this release of toxic gas, but it was damn unpleasant breathing it in, and my throat is still a little raw this morning.
