Pahoa Pool Closed

I have had to clean those covers...cannot image the gunk stuck there being your last image on earth... am glad they are finally getting to this compliance repair.. The mainland pools I used did the upgrade in early-mid 2000's - We are very lucky that this county was given a non-compliance waiver for so many years...& did not get hit with a non-compliance fine!

I emailed Mr. Souza at Parks & Recreation on 3/21/13 asking about whether the pool project is on track. I emailed Mr. Ilagan on 3/22/13 asking the same thing.

I haven't received a reply from either, but there have been some weekend days and today's holiday since I wrote to them, so I'll wait a couple of days before asking again.

If there's a problem with permits or whatever may be slowing the project down, maybe someone at the county level can sort it out.

The project is supposed to take 6 months... that was the projection in August when the 1st media release stated they planned it to begin in the fall of 2012, that was the projection when the project began in January....

Knowing 1/2 way through if it is on-track might be a little like forecasting a solid sunny day here, as many things can pop up after a project is 1/2 through that might be more critical to the on-time finish...

That said, the county has had to do major renovations at other of the pools that have had this compliance repair...and some have been on time, some have had parts issues that have delayed the re-opening...

Actually, the first announcement back in the fall of 2012 was "3 months," then "3 to 4 months." The winter aquatic schedule online says "3-6 months," and now it's "6 months."

My problem is that I think they could have waited to close the pool until all the parts were in and the permits granted. Maybe there's actual work going on right now, but I personally haven't seen any action over there. Crossing my fingers that it will actually be open in July but not holding my breath ....

In July, the P&R had noted that compliance repairs would take a minimum of 120 days (working days) and that any additional work could run over...in August Jason picked that up in a Trib Herald article, but only stated up to 120 days...nothing about the working part...have no idea if that was from the press release or interpretation of 120 days... but it would have been easy for the stress on working to get lost...and eventually filter down to someone interpreting 120 days to equal 3-4 months...

The delay from fall to winter was due to the initial bid not including some important things, and having to rebid the contract & getting a new contractor...

Hopefully the closing of the Pahoa pool will not be like the McCully pool & gym in Oahu...over 7 years... and still not completely open! link to story:
