Hurricane insurance
#11
I think an earthquake is far more likely to destroy a home here than a hurricane...

Why is it that banks don't require earthquake insurance?

I don't know why the banks don't, but do know that many insurance companies do not offer it here...It seems that California legislated earthquake coverage...something I kinda do not think will happen here, unless there is a high amount of damage in Oahu from a quake....remember in '06 there were grumblings about it....but there wasn't as much structural damage on that island....

The program last night also mentioned water damage (from rain. esp if roof is damaged in high winds) is (or may) not be covered under your insurance UNLESS you also have flood insurance, something most do not think of getting UNLESS they are in a flood zone.... I always thought of flood damage as something that happened when water came UP...

I have seen roofs blown off on this island regardless of the fact that hurricanes per se do not happen here, so far.
