Wow Radiopeg thats scary that they made you take your cats out in the middle of SEA! But Your not the first person to say that, Ive heard that before..Must be SOP there! So at least I know what to expect in SeattleSmile Can you imagine what a mess if one got loose! Yikes.
So far as for price Alaska seems to have the best price for flight for them but I will call Island Pet Movers today and see what their charges are...

$1200 for the birds and $700 for the dog. But unless you are also coming from Alaska your rates will probably be quite a bit less.

Also, if you are shipping from HNL to ITO on Aloha Air Cargo you can tape two kennels together (one on top of the other) and they count it as one kennel and you pay a lot less. When I was there I saw three kennels taped together.

I've flown Seattle to Kona via Alaska Air several times. Nothing but good experiences.

I also used Akona pet for a dog. I shipped directly from Los Angles to Hilo on United. Akona made all the arrangements with the Vet and got all the necessary paperwork done with Hawaii Ag. Cost about $300 for their service plus plane ticket. It was easier for me, but more expensive than making all the arrangements yourself.

Like Akona it costs more than doing it yourself but was here and the puppy was with my brother.

I have remarked before on pet moving. I used akonapets. They took care of everything and they do make a profit of around $300 per pet. Expensive but it was good for my aloha! Great experience and cats survived it all.

I was surprised that Hawaiian Air Cargo doesn't haul pets to Kona for direct release from the mainland. They did in 2011.

nana valley, I spoke with Akona pets the other day and yes they are expensive but we would get a discount for having more pets going.
Then they also stated that the amount for their services doesnt include any help once they land in Honolulu (if they had to go through HNL) and that to have their handlers in Honolulu help through the process there it would be hundreds more on top of their fee.
But what got me was they said that typical airfare for one cat would be anywhere from $ 300-350 each? ( Just to Honolulu from Seattle) Ive checked a few airlines now and yes there are fuel charges but like on Alaska if they flew in Baggage its just $ 100 dollars each. And thats when I decided I'm in the wrong ProfessionSmile LOL Im still waiting on responses to 2 other pet shippers for quotes so we will see how theirs compare.Smile

Rattlestaff,

If you could give a little more detail about your needs it would be easier to give better advice.

I believe when we used Island Pet Movers the net cost to us was less than doing it ourselves. We paid them for their help but they got us a lower shipping cost on the airline. Additionally, Hawaiian said they wouldn't take the size kennel we needed, but Island Pet Movers got them to accept it. They did not help us with any of the paperwork because we had already completed that, though they did review it and confirm that it was done correctly.
