They seem to be addressing this cost increase from both sides: raise fees, but also do less maintenance.

What happens if EPA mandates DMV to annual emission checks along with the safety check? Any guess on fees and fines then?

I'm sure any increase will be "modest", and only cost the "average" person another "few dollars a month". (This must be universally true of all tax/fee increases, because they say this exact thing every single time...)

I lived in a state with emissions check; both the registration and inspection were less expensive than Hawaii, so it's not clear where the money is actually going here, especially considering that County is "not responsible" for so many miles of road.

Perhaps they should trade places with someone who makes $7.25/hour (without benefits, a full-time schedule, or any possibility of a raise) so they better understand the impact of their "modest" tax/fee increases on the "average" person -- minimum-wage workers are the very definition of "do more and more with less and less".

Perhaps they should just go to any mainland area and get the same job for more money leaving uneducated people to fill their positions, like 911/dispatchers (yes they do both). Workers here get paid less than most mainland counterparts yet they have to pay higher prices like anyone else.

Exactly my point: the minimum wage is an insult, and failure to raise it borders on criminal.
